Dr. U.B. Pavanaja Dr U B Pavanaja holds Masters degree from Mysore University and PhD from Mumbai University. He was a scientist at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, for about 15 years. He has done advanced research at Taiwan. He resigned BARC in 1997 and dedicated himself fully for the cause of Computer and Indian languages. He heads his own venture called Vishva Kannada Softech. He also does consultancy works for Microsoft India, Microsoft Research Labs India, Manipal Education and many other companies in the area of Indic computing, NLP, technology for education, etc. He has to his credit many firsts, viz., first Kannada web-site, first Kannada online magazine, first Indian language (Kannada) web-site to receive Golden Web Award, first Indian language (Kannada) editor for Palm OS, first Indian language (Kannada) editor for WinCE device (HP Jornado 720), first Indian language version (Kannada) of universally popular Logo (programming language for children) software, etc. He is a member of the Technical Advisory Committee setup by Govt of Karnataka on Kannada on Computers. He started his career on computers from FORTRAN and then moved on to Pascal, C, BASIC, QuickBasic, Visual Basic, VB.Net, etc. His Smart Tag on converting some English banking terms into Hindi, developed using VB.Net, has won him the third prize in the All-India Smart Tag contest conducted by Microsoft India. He has attended and represented Indian languages in many Indian and International fora like Indic Font Workshop (Indic Computing Consortium, Bangalore, India), Unicode conference (Unicode Consortium, CA, USA), OpenType Font Seminar (Microsoft, Seattle, USA), Global Development and Deployment Conference (Microsoft, Redmond, USA), etc. He is quite well known in Indic computing arena. He is also popular as a writer of articles in Kannada about IT.
Debashish was fascinated by Computers at the age of 5 (year 1986). He managed a fully fledged dissection of a computer at the age of 9 years to learn what’s inside. He started his career as a software developer working in IBM Universe, PICK BASIC and DB2. He has also spent few years on Windows programming with expertise in Microsoft Dot Net framework and went on to become a Code Quality Governance Expert and then joined the product consulting arm. Debashish is ITIL certified and has attended courses towards CCNA and RHCE industry certifications. He moved into a different role altogether when he joined NetIQ as a Security and Compliance specialist. His focus shifted from the SDLC to the overall organization’s operational excellence. IT governance practices and security Incident management form a core of his expertise now. He holds a masters degree in Computer Sciences with Advanced Networking and Artificial intelligence as his majors from Ravenshaw College. He is an expert consultant on Operation Security & Compliance management, operational change management, Configuration and Vulnerability management, Systems and Application performance management including VoIP infrastructure management. He is also a subject matter expert in technologies like the Microsoft Active Directory and is a trusted resource during Domain and Exchange migrations.
